Brief History
Kutcha Edwards & Band have performed and travelled extensively,
playing throughout urban and regional Australia, as well as Asia.
Kutcha began his musical career with the band Watbalimba and later
joined renowned band Blackfire. Over the past decade Melbourne-based
Blackfire has showcased many of Australia's finest indigenous musicians
and Kutcha has been with them throughout. In 1997 and 1999 he toured
with Blackfire, to Japan, Taiwan and China, where they brought the
houses down, including a performance on China Central Television to
an estimated audience of 20 million people. They have released two
CD's, A Time To Dream in 1994
and Night Vision in 1997.
Today Kutcha has his own band and has become one of Australia's most
sought after artists. Taking with him the best of many musicians he
has worked with over the years. Kutcha Edwards & Band is about to
release the CD, Cooinda performing
songs produced with help from friends Paul Hester, Paul Kelly and
David Bridie.
Cooinda relates Kutcha's life's
journey with songs covering a range of issues from his forceful removal
from his family as a child to songs dedicated to both his mother and
late father. His song Stay With Me is dedicated
to both his father and son and was produced by Paul Kelly for the
Songlines Compilation CD, Making Tracks. Another song Don't Wait Until Tomorrow
is an encouraging message to young people who face the dilemmas of
drug and alcohol abuse.
Kutcha Edward's remarkable career thus far, was duly recognised by
being awarded the NAIDOC Indigenous
Person of the Year, 2001 - 2002, as well as being awarded the
2001 Male Artist of the Year at the Deadly Vibes Awards. Kutcha Edwards & Band is an established
musical entity with invitations to play at events ranging from corporate
to community, both within Australia and internationally.
